Think Fathers

The Dad Test is designed to help all agencies working directly with children and families to identify how father inclusive their own services are, and what changes they can make to ensure they provide the best possible services to improve children’s wellbeing and safety. The Dad Test is fully in line with a wide range of Government policies which now require these services to support both fathers’ and mothers’ relationships with their children.

Its child-centred approach supports the integrated working agenda, which requires everyone working with children and their families to work together effectively to meet children’s needs and improve their lives.

It also supports the effective implementation of the Government’s Think Family agenda, in a way that is gender-aware and inclusive.  The need to develop father-inclusive services is strengthened by the Gender Equality Duty in the Equality Act (2006), which places a statutory obligation on public services to meet the different needs of men and women.
